COVID-19 Update - Senior High and Horace Mann

April 28, 2021

Dear Families:

The District was notified that a Senior High student, as well as a student from Horace Mann, have tested positive for COVID-19.  The  Senior High student was not in school during his/her infectious period; however, the student did attend after-school practice during the contagious period.  As a result of the contract tracing efforts, 8 additional staff and/or students need to be quarantined as a result of this case.  Thankfully, the coach followed current health and safety protocols, the number of quarantined students is limited to only the students in the small grouping that included the infected student.  Regarding the positive case at Horace Mann, the student was in school on Monday during his/her infectious period.  No additional staff/students at Horace Mann will need to be quarantined. These positive cases WILL be attributed to the District.

Based on the information above as well as our current case count, we will continue to stay open under the current model.   See below for the current case numbers at each building as of this morning.

  • Senior High - 1 active cases
  • Junior High - 0 active cases
  • Eisenhower - 0 active cases
  • Horace Mann - 1 active case
  • Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
  • East Pike - 0 active cases

As a reminder, the 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results.

As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time.  We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility.  My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
